Here at Genjitsu Dojo we teach Aikido in a practical format for children. We truly believe that the skills they pick up here will help them in everyday life. Instruction covers the range from the basics such as discipline, awareness, calmness and respect for others, to the advanced techniques that will help get the child out of physical danger. Children do learn a lot. They pick up body movement and rolling skills that can be used when doing sports like soccer, baseball, basketball, football or bicycle riding. They also learn how not to be grabbed, punched or kicked by adults and other children.

Students learn how to get out of situations where they could get hurt or abducted. We continuously practice hands on situations which will allow the student to build automatic awareness and muscle memory. In doing this the student builds self-confidence, mental discipline, self assurance, respect for themselves and others.

Ashley (age nine) during her last test was able to deflect multiple attacks from adult Aikido students. In Aikido, a nine year old can defend him or herself by using Aikido principles and not trying to go force on force with adults.

Even two adults against one child works fine in Aikido. The body movements and deflections taught keep the child from being grabbed or knocked down.
